Leadership Africa honors 21 leaders for future in civic leadership

Writer: Babacar FallBabacar Fall

Leadership Africa has graduated 22 new leaders from their annual training program, equipping them to take on greater civic and professional roles.

The 9-month professional leadership development program is delivered via day-long in-person workshops hosted once per month. It supports people in identifying their authentic leadership style while teaching them about local government systems, gaining critical leadership skills, building new self-awareness, and gaining a strong network of peers.

Before this, there was a two-day opening session, individual pre-work for each session, and a team leadership project. In addition, participants completed a personal assessment model that guided their personal development objectives.

“Graduating from the Leadership Africa program has been an incredible milestone. The 9-month journey was transformative, filled with rich learning experiences, inspiring facilitators, and meaningful connections with fellow participants and especially my group project team. It’s an honor to celebrate this achievement and carry forward the leadership skills to create a lasting impact’’, said participant Moctar Diaw.

The program philosophy draws on best practices in leadership development, strengths inherent in traditional cultures, and the resilience of African immigrant communities. Leadership Africa is ideal for professionals with a track record of giving back to the community and who can commit to engaging in this rigorous program for the full 9 months.

“Some of us didn’t get a chance to express our gratitude on the stage, but I want to thank all the participants. I learned so much from each of you, and I am glad I met you. Thank you to the very humble instructors for creating a great learning environment and times. We appreciate you. Somehow, I would like to commit one Saturday a month to self-development. I don’t know if I can do it, but I will try. Let us keep in touch. Hopefully, ALG will come up with projects that bring us together’’, said participant, Mohamed Kadir.

ALG is an established Colorado nonprofit of 15 years created to serve the entire African immigrant community to help improve their quality of life.
